UNICEF Full Form: United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund

UNICEF full form is the United Nations International Children’s, Emergency Fund. The headquarter of UNICEF is in New York and currently, 190 countries are members of UNICEF. It also called the United Nations Children’s Fund.

This institution was first formed by the United Nations on 11 December 1946. Ludwik Rajchman built UNICEF. Henrietta H. Fore is currently the head of UNICEF.

UNICEF established for the education, health, and welfare of children present in the world.

It works with the world’s health organization (WHO), to keep children water access, away from infection, and to run campaigns for education, etc.

It aimed to help the children affected in the Second World War but now the organization works for children’s welfare all over the world.

UNICEF started functioning in India in 1949 and then UNICEF became a permanent member of the United Nations in 1953.

In 1953, UNICEF also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for working for children. After that UNICEF’s work gained further momentum. India has also awarded the UNICEF Indira Gandhi Peace Prize in  1989.

UNICEF gives about 3 billion vaccines annually for vaccination of children every year all over the world. For instance BCG vaccine, polio vaccine, tetanus vaccine, etc.

UNICEF runs its trick-and-treat programs in the US, Nepal, and some other countries, in which children collect money for UNICEF.

After 1950, Philadelphia and Pennsylvania, in a group of children, donated $ 17 to help people after the Second World War at Halloween, a festival in America.

All of this became a tradition in North America called Trick and Treat for UNICEF in which children collect donations.

The 2012 Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign raised more than $ 91 million in Canada and 167 million in the US.
